Signs it may be time to get help
Substance use does not have to reach a crisis before professional support becomes appropriate. Changes in health, relationships, responsibilities, or emotional well-being can signal that it may be time to consider treatment.
Signs may include:
- Drinking or using more than intended, or struggling to cut back
- Experiencing cravings, withdrawal symptoms, or loss of control
- Falling behind at work, school, home, or in relationships
- Continuing to use despite physical, emotional, financial, or social consequences
- Using drugs or alcohol to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress
- Returning to substance use after previous attempts to stop
- Hearing concern from friends or family members
