Healing the Entire System—Not Just the Individual
At Lanier Recovery Center, we believe addiction doesn’t just affect one person—it impacts the entire family. That’s why family therapy is a foundational part of our treatment approach. By helping families heal together, we create lasting change that supports both the individual in recovery and the loved ones walking alongside them.
Whether you’re a parent, partner, sibling, or adult child, your role matters. Our family therapy program helps you process the pain, rebuild trust, and learn how to support recovery without losing yourself in the process.
Why Family Therapy Matters in Addiction Recovery
Addiction often thrives in silence, secrecy, and dysfunction. Family members may unintentionally reinforce patterns that keep their loved one stuck—or struggle with guilt, resentment, or fear that they don’t know how to express.
Family therapy breaks that cycle. It opens up a safe space for honest communication, emotional healing, and practical boundary-setting—so everyone can begin to move forward.
Benefits of family therapy include:
Improved communication and conflict resolution
Greater understanding of addiction as a disease
Healthy boundaries and roles within the family
Emotional healing from past wounds
Increased support for the person in treatment
Reduced risk of relapse through ongoing family engagement
What to Expect From Family Therapy at Lanier
We tailor family involvement to each client’s situation, level of care, and stage in treatment. Whether you’re participating in our Partial Hospitalization (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), our licensed therapists integrate family therapy as part of the clinical plan.
Family therapy at Lanier may include:
Individual sessions with family members
Joint sessions with the client and family
Psychoeducation about addiction, mental health, and trauma
Support in navigating boundaries and expectations
Coaching on relapse prevention and aftercare planning
In some cases, we also refer families to additional community-based or long-term family therapy resources to support their own healing journey.
Who Should Participate?
Family therapy is open to any loved one who plays a meaningful role in the client’s life. This may include:
Parents
Spouses or partners
Adult children
Siblings
Close friends or mentors
We encourage family members to engage with empathy, openness, and a willingness to grow alongside their loved one, not as “fixers,” but as supportive allies in the process of healing.
Lasting Recovery Starts at Home
Addiction treatment doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Long-term recovery is more likely when the family system is healthy, educated, and working toward shared goals. At Lanier Recovery Center, we treat family involvement not as an optional extra—but as a vital part of our holistic approach to care.
